Biography
David was appointed Chief Executive in February 2009. He joined the Department for Industry in 1978 and has undertaken a wide variety of civil service roles, including four years as Regional Director of the Government Office for the South East. He was Director of Consumer and Competition Policy in the DTI and subsequently BERR from October 2004 until September 2008, with responsibility for the UK competition regime, state aid, UK consumer law and its enforcement, consumer safety, consumer credit and indebtedness. He moved in October 2008 to the new Department of Energy and Climate Change to carry out a project looking at how best to get regional and local engagement and delivery of the UK’s ambitious renewable energy target.
