Quarterly summary of accounts

The CC has a very unpredictable workload, it cannot initiate its own inquiries, and it is difficult to predict with much accuracy the workload for the coming months. The CC can only investigate a merger or market which has been referred to it by the Office of Fair Trading, an industry regulator or the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).

The CC's budgeting process is therefore reviewed regularly to ensure that it reflects the latest prediction of work; and BIS is fully informed about how the CC is achieving its targets against its budgets, on a regular basis.
