Financial and Business Adviser

Central London
Salary: £56,000 to £65,000
Closing date: Tuesday 2 April 2013

The CC is seeking to recruit a well-qualified and proactive person to join its highly regarded Financial and Business Adviser (FBA) team. FBAs play a key role in the CC’s inquiries by providing rigorous analysis and advice on financial, business and regulatory issues. They also have a critical role in developing and implementing remedies to competitive problems. You can learn more about the team by reading the note below.

Candidates will be high-calibre graduates who have a professional accountancy qualification or MBA and strong analytical and communication skills. Candidates should have a sound understanding of strategic and commercial processes gained from a relevant business background. Experience of a variety of business sectors is desirable, particularly in regulatory, corporate finance and strategic functions.

In return we offer a fascinating variety of work at the cutting edge of industrial change, plus a salary commensurate with relevant experience, a generous leave allowance and membership of the Civil Service pension scheme.

The Competition Commission (CC) is one of Europe’s foremost competition agencies with a key role in ensuring effective competition between businesses in the UK. It carries out in-depth investigations into mergers, markets and the regulation of key industries. Current cases include market inquiries into statutory audit services, private health insurance, private motor insurance, cement and aggregates; merger inquiries involving cross channel ferries, airlines, metallic coatings, casinos, local radio services; and regulation of telecommunications.

This is an exciting time to work at the CC. The government is planning to merge the CC with the OFT in 2014 to create the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). Posts therefore offer the opportunity to help shape the future of competition policy in the UK with the creation of the CMA and to obtain relevant experience in a key area of the work of the new Authority.

This post is open to any qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the UK. To apply, please send your completed application (cover letter, application form (DOC, 653 Kb)  and equality and diversity monitoring form (DOC, 618 Kb) ) to Recruitment no later than Tuesday 2 April 2013.
