| Dr Ulf Böge has been
President of the Bundeskartellamt in Bonn since the
beginning of 2000. Earlier in his career he held positions
as Director General for Economic Policy (1998) and as
Director General for Energy Policy (1997) in the Federal
Ministry of Economics.
He also gained experience, inter alia, as a Member
of the Governing Board of the International Energy Agency,
Paris (1994–1998), Head of the German Delegation
to the European Energy Charter negotiations (1991–1994),
EU negotiator of the Energy Charter Treaty during the
German EU Presidency (signed in Lisbon in December 1994)
and Chairman of the Standing Group on Emergency Issues
at the IEA, Paris (1996–1998).
His other functions include co-chairing the Competition
Committee, Paris (as of June 2000), and acting as an
Advisory Member of the Europäische Föderalismusakademie,
Bonn; Extraordinary Member of the Industrieclub eV,
Düsseldorf; Member of the Internationaler Club
La Redoute eV, Bonn (2000). Co-Chairman of the International
Competition Network Steering Group as of June 2003 and
since September 2004 is he Chair of the International
Competition Network Steering Group.
In the 1970s he was employed by the Federal Ministry
of Economics in the field of competition policy and
took charge of the Economics Section at the Office of
the Federal President. Mr Böge graduated at the
University of Mainz 1968 and went on to complete a doctorate
(Dr rer pol) in 1971.
