What is an abuse of market power?

CC Chairman Paul Geroski and guest speakers

CC Chairman Professor Paul Geroski welcomed a capacity audience to Victoria House on 19 April 2005 for the third lecture in the CC’s popular bi-annual series.

In his introduction Professor Geroski said that the evening’s subject: What is an abuse of market power? (pdf, 20kb) could hardly be more topical given the recent Microsoft case. He said that we were particularly fortunate to have two extremely distinguished speakers, Dr Ulf Böge and Sir John Vickers, who had been very much at the forefront of both intra-European and trans-Atlantic debates on the subject and their contributions tonight were bound to stimulate further lively discussion.

Dr Ulf Böge, President of the Bundeskartellamt (German Federal Cartel Office) spoke on the ‘Modernisation of Article 82’ (pdf, 375kb) and slide presentation (pdf, 32kb)

Sir John Vickers, Chairman of the Office of Fair Trading, gave his thoughts on ‘Abuse of market power’ (pdf, 168kb) and further developed the theme with a slide presentation ‘Law and Economics: The case for bundling’ (pdf, 54kb)

The next lecture will be held at Victoria House, autumn 2005.
